Ombre & Flash Tat Easter Eggs

March 17, 2016

I tried blue ombre eggs last year they turned out so cute. I decided to do it again this year as it's quite easy and added a little something extra...my favorite flash tats!

HOW-TO:

1. Hardboil a dozed white eggs.

Here is a nice recipe if you need a reminder on how to make a perfect egg.

Place the eggs in a large pot and pour cold water to cover them by about an extra inch. Bring the water to a boil uncovered. Turn off stove and cover, then let stand for 15 mins. Run the whole pot under cold water until the eggs cool. And you have 12 perfect, peelable, delicious, hardboiled eggs.

2. For the ombre dye, you will need:

- warm water in a medium bowl

- white wine vinegar

- food coloring

- tongs

 3. Add about 1/2 cup of vinegar to a medium bowl of warm water. I really didn't measure it, just splash some in.

Add a few drops of food coloring to the bowl to start and only put in the first 2 eggs. The first 2 get dyed pretty quickly in the lightest shade so you don't need to leave them too long. Maybe just 10-20 seconds.

The next couple of shades get dyed pretty quicky too so add 4-6 more eggs in all together and take out 2 at a time after about 20 more seconds for each shade. I had to keep adding more dye in after taking 2 eggs out to get the rest to the next darker shade. Just keep taking them out and putting back in if they need more time or dye. It doesn't have to be perfect as long as the shade is a bit darker. The last 2-4 eggs will need a lot more food coloring. I dumped in most of the tiny food dye for the very last set.

I think they're beautiful as they are like this, but if you want a little something extra, you can try some flash tats. Lots of options out there and I think these feathers and bands would be really cute.

Let the eggs dry and apply the flash tats like a regular temporary tattoo with a cotton ball and some warm water. Make sure to soak long enough before very gently removing the paper.
