Big Girl Room Update

I have been loving the new Emily + Merritt collection for Pottery Barn Teen & now Kids. So many cute pieces! I used that as inspiration for Lena's big girl room update with the black & white, gold and lilac theme.

I did a little update to Lena's old dresser with some Gold Satin spray paint and some updated knobs from World Market (clearance bin for $1.99 each...score!)

To tie in the other side of the room, I hung up these adorable Forest Pop Wall Decor critters from Land of Nod.

How to paint a Birch Tree Mural:

1) I used standard black and white acrylics. Make sure to get a large tube of white (I used almost 2 large tubes, whixh is about 16 oz total).

2) Start by drawing more or less straight lines down the length of the wall. The lines don't have to be perfect, as that helps the trees look more natural. I used a wide brush, which helped it go quicker.

3) Let the white dry at least a few hours. Then go back over the trees with a light grey color and blend roughly from the outside in. Again, it realy doesn't have to look perfect, but when you add in the black, it will look much more realistic.

3) Add in some branches...

4) Let everything dry again. Then go ack in with black and draw some random lines. It's nice to do some larger knobs to help it look authentic.

I also ordered a forrest critters decal from Amazon to help give a full forest feel. Lena loved them of course!

Hope you are inspired to make some updates of your own! Would love to see the end results.
